What type of work do you do?
With so many creatives, I thought it would be interesting to hear what type of work we're doing.
I do mostly Illustration work - kids' product art, book illustration, tshirt art and gig posters. I do some design work - mostly label/package design. I do a lot of other stuff - production/prepress, etc. - but that's because I'm freelance and take whatever I can get! How about you guys? Always good to hear from different areas of expertise. josh |

I do mostly everything (moreso front end web design and branding), but I try to stay away from development when I can. However the recession dictates that at the minute I'm not doing much

I'm new too. I'm about a year out of school and I've been job hunting. One day my brain started oozing out my ear after writing yet another cover letter. I wasn't designing and putting all my mind into the hunt. After that I decided I had to get creative or I was going to loose my mind altogether. I started joining contests and won a few. It felt so good to design. The contest work led to freelance and that's what I'm doing now. I'm designing wine bags and I've done invitations for events and also some freelance production work. I'm still holding out for a design job with a steady pay check but I love that this place exists for many reasons. It's great to have creative friends and it's great to share the work.

I'm just about ready to end my freshman year of college (youngster I know
)I do a lot of fine art and illustrative work both in traditional mediums and on the computer. I love design and really really love doing logos . I'm really looking forward to participating in the contests as soon as I make it through the review . I also do a weekly editorial cartoon for my school newspaper... and actually just launched my weekly webcomic today! (we'll see how long it takes for me to miss an update ;P) |

The anchor of my stuff is traditional hand-rendered illustration and painting...
But I also do layouts for ads, business cards, flyers, etc. I've done several CD covers. I don't have a ton of logos under my belt, but I'm working on putting those extra notches in it! ![]() Not to mention all the crafty stuff I get my hands in, but that's for the other forums I'm a member of! ![]() |

For all you guys who have gone to university and are looking for a job, or already have a job, what University would you recommend? Like what are really good ones out there? Also, does anyone know of any universities in Canada that are good for design. It might be something I would be interested in later on. Thanks.

I'm about a year out of college. I did not go to school for graphic design. I went for Visual communication technology. I specialized in print, photography, and video media. I know pretty much how to do any type of design since thats what our program was built around, the technology. I have been freelancing for a small advertising agency in my home town for over a year now. I have some small clients to get my feet wet. Recently I have been applying to pretty much anything that has design involved in it just to keep me busy and stay in that design mindset.
I mainly am trying to get a job at a creative firm that does motion graphics as I am in love with that. Until then, side jobs, design contests, and probably a part time job will pay the bills. I may plan on going back to college to take some 3d classes and actual web design (not development) since there is a huge calling for web designers. As for colleges in canada... Vancouver has a great place for motion that I know of and I believe they also have art degrees as well. As for design schools... Cal Arts, SCAD (savannah college of art and Design), University of Cincinnati's Digital Media program, Eastern Michigan University, Art institute of Chicago, Pittsburgh Institute of Art...those are just some that i know off the top of my head. The company is called geneaces. As I mentioned before, they are a starting company and do not hire too many designers. I like working with them as I get regular orders but that is not enough for me, so I am willing to get approved on this forum and be able to post in design contest section. I've got kinda tired of joining random contests with unexperienced contest holders who choose bad quality logos because they know too little (I mean, they even choose not vector based logos!), so I want to try my skills in quality contests I found here
