as anyone here ever done work on retainer?
not the dental supplement - the agreement.
![]() I have a client that is wanting for me to work on retainer. I've done this one other time, but it was kind of informal...so I'm not sure about everything I need to have in a contract. Does anyone here have experience with that sort of thing? thanks! |

I've done it a couple times in the past and it was kinda on the informal side. (not graphic design but other things)
It worked out ok for me in the end.. kinda.. still got screwed a bit but not bad. Before starting the actual written contract. Figure out what you want out of it thing of all things that may be unexpected. Lets say you agree to work 1 week a month and somehthing happens to where they can't use use you this month should you get paid.. well if it's in the contract you will.. how about you can't make it cause you are in the hospital..should you get paid? you could if it's in the contract. LOL see how it can get complicated.. But with out knowing all the in's and out's I'd say google sample retainer. wait.. here you go -> retainer contract example - Google Search read through some of them.. If you have a lawyer I'd use him if not get the contract to read as close as possible to how you want it to be.. The other party can/will negotiate for their benefit.. If you want to keep lawyers out you can still have one look over it for about $50-100, just to get their opinion. Make sure everything is sign and notorized. I lost out on about $3000 because I didn't have a contract notorized.. I ended up getting the products I designed instead of cash.. which kinda worked out for me anyway, but if I'd drawn up the contract and not kept it so informal I'd would be set now.. live and learn, i guess.
