Community Theater "Anniversary" Logo

Hullo Fellow Designerfolk!

I'm the webmaster for an official 501.3whatever non-profit community theater in Northern California.

Next year will be their 25th season of producing shows, and for the year, we're looking for a special "Anniversary" edition of their logo. While I'm more than capable of designing it myself, I've been involved with the place since I was about 11, so the logo they have is the only one I can really see, and my efforts thus far have been unsatisfactory (to me).

So I thought I'd put it out to the group here to see how folks might "reinvision" the current logo for next year's festivities.

Unfortunately, there's no real prize for this one, but if the board of directors decides to use your logo and you happen through the area, I'm sure I can score you a couple free tickets to a show (or two).

I do want to reiterate that we're not looking for a complete redesign, just a new take on what they have (it's the RP logo in the upper left corner of the website).

Anyway, thanks in advance for your efforts. I'll take everything submitted and bring it to the Board for the January Board meeting (which means no 'results' until at least 1/10/2005).

Redding, CA? Thats quite a coincidence; I live in the same town as you. I haven't actually been to the theater myself, but I've heard of it before from other people. I will try to make a logo for this when I have some free time.

I actually don't LIVE there anymore. I'm down in San Jose and do everything "long distance" now.

But hey, feel free to give the whole thing a shot, please! I'd love to see what you come up with.

Do you want the logo to be updated and a little bit more modernized, or do you just want to spice up the logo with some special effects? Could you give a little more detail?

A little more than just special effects, really. I've special effected the crap out of the logo in the past, so...

Just keep to the same general concept, but push it as far as you think it can go and still be associated with what was there before.

Very cool. The one thing they're going to be fussy about, though is that the smiley face needs to face right. Right is the "future" and happiness should be facing the future. Or so says someone's Feng Shui expert.

ei got a question..do we really need to follow the "P" and reverse "R" format of the logo..or can we make a bit of a change..?

If you've got an idea, go ahead and try it. I'm not sure how far from the original concept the board of directors is willing to go, but I'll bring them all the suggestions.

It's some variation of Souvenir, probably from a press type pack.

Wow, that is is an old logo.

Were computers even invented? At least not ones with special fonts, and image editing programs.

Would you rather use the old Logo, or come up with a new version that is kind of like it? What do you actually want?

Again, we're looking for ideas. Some of the folks on the board are convinced that we shouldn't change a thing, some like the idea of switching it up for a year.

The logo itself has become very associated with the theater, so the further we stray from the original concept the more people are going to be nervous about it. I will take all ideas to them for review, however.

And no, there wasn't a "computer" version of the current logo until a few years ago.

You wouldn't happen to have a vector graphic of the logo, or a source file or something, would you? It is hard to work with that low contrast logo that you linked to.

Here's my shot. DIfferent design, but kept some concepts such as the face, and the back-to-front R. Hope you like it!!

Here, i fixed it up a little, the mask isn't as deformed.
