I have no idea how should our new logo look. We'll use it for our site as header logo, imprinted as a stamp on our pictures of cichlids, printed on t-shirts, engraved on our towels & baseball caps, and every other cool way to promote our site. We have current plan to put logo on zippo lighters. There's no limit of colors to be used, but we don't want a childish type of drawing or colors. Since cichlids are very aggressive aquarium fishes, we would love our logo to show that, but it's not a must.

I'll try to describe cichlids, and the reasons why we love them. First of all, cichlids are very vivid and colorful fishes, this is because of very fast evolution they have, in fact, it's very common thing to use cichlids for evolution experiments in scientific works. Cichlids live in Africa, America and Asia, but we prefer African cichlids, because they are most colorful and most beautiful of them all. Largest number of cichlid species, come from 2 lakes in eastern Africa, Tanganyika and Malawi. These lakes are huge, and very old, they've been isolated from other waters of Africa, so cichlids from these two lakes, have been separated for a very long time from the rest of world, hence, developed completely different form other cichlids on our planet, that has made them unique in shape and colors. In this description of cichlids, it's very important to say, that these lakes, are almost just stones and water, no plants, so cichlids, have evolved to graze (grazing is eating algae from stones) which means that they get very little food, so the competition is enormous, hence comes the abnormal aggression of our pets. There are other ways of feeding in lakes, but 2 are most common, grazing and predators. These two groups of cichlids are the most wanted in our hobby, grazers, are NOT peaceful fishes, they can kill another fish in few minutes, predators are more efficient, they can kill in few seconds. Generally speaking, these predators show some resemblance to pike fish. Almost all cichlids from Tanganyika and Malawi have the same spawning method, they are mouthbrooders, which means that they carry there eggs in there mouth.This is the reason why cichlids are so successful in aquarium.

I think this is enough for brief description of cichlids. There are two resources to use, to further understanding our passion, or to be used as a part of logo. Please try to include accents on letter C in first and second word.

All rights for logo have to be transffered to the contest holder.

thank you for your effort, your concept resembles much like NeoNcP logo concept. I've spoke about these logos with other admin of ciklidi.org, and we do agree that these are not logos that excite us, but at the same time, we can't say why they don't excite us. If it's not too much to ask, please try something different? Thank you.

DtRiCk, I don't know maybe we would like more action, maybe we would like more designer action, I just don't know. I'm a designer my self, if I say what I like, we would get my concept, and I know that we don't want my concept, we had more than enough of my concept but I can say two things, that we don't want a logo that resembles other aquarium sites logo, and we specialy don't want a logo that resembles fisher sites logos!


grimsqueaker, your idea is bit more of "what we want", but it has a concept error, because the drawn fish is a hybrid between two different cichlids, it has a coloration of a Melanochromis auratus, and the shape of Altolamprologus calvus or compressiceps. Since we fight against hybridisation of cichlids in aquariums, it would be against our will to use this hybrid fish


Max, you have done the Dimidiochromis compressiceps cichlid, which acctualy has different lower jaw, it's his main characteristic, but the shape and colors are correct! Problem with your idea is that it looks like a "fisher" web site logo

To everybody, what we see in all designs is a lack of "playing" with text, text is very simple in all designs, it's just THE text, and we've imagined that the text should be art like the drawing it self is!

When I discovered DC.net, I saw a lot of different ideas for different logos, we were fascianted with most of those logos posted here in different contests, hence, we wanted NOT to descibe what we want, and let you designers, get your own ideas!

Hi Piro - thanks for the feedback! If you have a particular fish/color in mind, could you post a few pictures of this specific fish? (It's hard to navigate through your site as it's in a language foreign to me). I'll design the logo in a similar way.

Also, I'm sorry you're not receiving entries close to what you want. This is probably due to the fact that this contest is open to ALL community members. You will definitely be getting some entries from different people with different styles that might appeal to you soon! Also – the prize for this contest is really mediocre. You can’t really expect a top-quality designer to work that hard for a year of hosting. For instance, I’m entering this contest not for the hosting but for the experience. You might want to raise your prize a bit more?

grimsqueaker, we don't have a particular cichlid in mind, that's why we posted direct links to Tanganyika and Malawi galleries, so you can make a choice, without knowing our language! grimsqueaker please don't feel sorry about us, we're just a group of people who love cichlids, if we don't get a cool logo in this contest, we'll design it on our own. So everything is relaxed. It's a god idea to raise reward, I'll ask other "investors" will they give more money for logo?

Max, number 1 looks like a soda drink to us , but number 2 is very cool, abstract looks, we prefer it without black background, could you "play" a bit more with .org and afrički američki azijski? Number 3, it looks like the cichlid is in a bowl, bowls are for betas, not for cichlids, but anyway we liked the one with black in letters, could you "lose" bowl look and "play" a bit more with afrički američki azijski?

CoolShady, we love the fish art, it's abstract, so non Slavic, we love non Slavic design. But the rest of logo, is just ordinary letters, not to mention there are lots of brands using fish body for text, with added fish head. Could you keep cool fish head, and try to change the rest? We liked blue one more than black with red outline.
