Smoker (etching)
Just before I leave for Japan I though I post the latest work. It is an etching 15x20 cm. I've just finished it. This was my first experiment with aquatint. Personally I think it's not that bad
Anyway, no new etchings from me till October (this is when the workshop reopens avter vacations). |

you definately have a bit of an unpolished style to your work. this could grow into a great "friendly" illustrative style, or be incredibly dark and twisted, if thats what you wanted. right now its halfway there. it just looks a little amateurish still. I also have a little bit of a scribbly non traditional drawing style. i'm tightening mine up by doing sketches of anything and everything 15 minutes a day. the key is to get it looking tighter without loosing your distinctive style.

Thank you guys for encouraging comments!
JNT86, you are absolutely right, there is so much work to be done before I can call myself an illustrator or an artist. But I think I am getting there - the last year of biweekly gravure workshops wasn't much (especially for gravure!) and this work is the very first try at aquatint, but I will definitely continue. I'd like to go keep general darker feel in my works with a slight confusion created by that "friendly"/cute side. But you are right I am still searching for my own style. |
