Css

I have been doing web design for a few years now. I do most of the work in HTML and do fonts, etc in CSS. I want to learn more CSS so that I can do less tables on my sites.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for learning to do this more. Websites? Books? anything that will help me to learn the ropes a lil better.

I frequent these sites a lot. It's really helped me develop my skills. What I tend to do also is go to a lot of css coded sites and look at the coding, that helps me learn different techniques, different ways of doing things and it gives a lot of ideas.

I really think css is a great alternative to tables. Tables are complicated and are heavier... css offers a really light way of doing things.

I recommend learning the box model first, This is used in your sites layout!
Then look at the sites listed above (However W3 Schools is good for learning programming languages but they lack in design, Also Zen Garden is a cool site but that is more of professional CSS so you may look for inspiration but try to try to learn basics first

), and as you probably already know "practice makes perfect" so make some test pages using css and try to get away from using tables. Its scary at first but once you get the hang off it you'll be missing tables like you miss dog **** on your shoe

I have heard good things about Sitepoint's HTML Utopia: Designing without tables using CSS, but haven't read it, personally. www.cssbeauty.com also has some very nice designs showcased, if you want to look at examples, as dows www.webstandardsawards.com

It's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get over it, it makes building websites so much simpler and faster.

I would go with Sitepoint's HTML Utopia: Designing without tables using CSS. Since you know HTML already the book shouldn't be confusing.

and if you're interested in books, I've recently bought two books about dhtml and css and they've made me switch to using div instead of tables as much as I possibly can

the books are by Jason Cranford Teague, titles: "dhtml and css for the world wide web" and "dhtml and css advanced" and the weblog of the author can be found at www.webbedenvironments.com on which you'll certainly find some info about the books

www.steampowered.com go to the forums, half life 2 then counter-strike:source thread, you can learn all you need to know about CS:S and watch out for the flames, jp www.draac.com helped me with css
