Who owns the design in the end
The Elite Design Team is a pre-approved group of designers at DesignContest.net that have qualified and passed the application process. Elite Designers have proven themselves to be both active participants in the forums, as well as skilled designers and are qualified to participate in the many different types of contests that DC offers.
Joining the Elite Design Team is easy! If you are an active member of the community and have an online portfolio that easily viewable, you may apply to the team by clicking here.
All applications can take up to 30 days to approve, and once you are approved you may enter all the contests seen on Design Contest
Unforuntately not all members of the community can be accepted onto the Design Team. All applicants are judged on their pre-existing qualifications and portfolio, and if you can not prove to us that you can provide quality designs to the contest holders, you will not be able to join.
We encourage all designers who were denied to continue participating in the Community Contests and discussions in the community. With time, everyone gets better, and you may re-apply to join the team with a new portfolio 60 days after your initial denial.
Additionally, once your portfolio has passed the application process, the final step in acceptance to the team is by a vote from the community. A poll will be held in which all members are asked "Did this member contribute to your DC experience in
a positive way?". Members are asked to review your forum participation and vote accordingly. Forum participation is an important step in becoming an Elite Designer.
While we are happy that you have registered in our community, we hope that you'll do more than that! Certainly feel free to browse around, view the great designs in our current and completed contests, introduce yourself, etc. We also hope that you'll actually participate in the community. Please remember to always be courteous and polite to all other members. Criticism is welcome - as long as it's constructive and not maliciously intended. As mentioned in our guidelines, cotact with contest holders outside the contest topic is prohibited. This rule was implemented to avoid having designers persuade contest holders to choose their design. Contact outside the forums also means that unfair "deals" can be made, which may or may not influence the contest holder to choose a specific design
Remember: any designer found in contact with a contest holder will be immediately banned
Generally, the person paying for the design (the contest holder) owns the logo in the end. However, there are certain people who believe that the person paying is only leasing the design on question. Any contest holder in doubt of such ownership should get the winning designer to sign an agreement outlining ownership terms. These terms generally state that all rights to the said design are property of the contest holder, but the designer is permitted to display the work in his/her portfolio.
